My Almost Lover

My almost lover
my forever soul brother
we were destined to meet
both wanderers of time

our spirits aligned
in a bond of the mind
as the story goes
tells the stars and thrown stones.

You saw me first
all punked out
the new girl in town
and you the artist thought peculiar
had to meet me right there.
We fell in love with Cohen
each other- together treading
the normality we fought against.

My almost lover
my forever soul brother
you were my knight
and I was your innocent prodigy.

For a decade we danced side by side
arms wrapped around others
sneaking kisses among the hills.
We were comrades with plans for another time
a pact was made for a future date.

My almost lover
my forever soul brother
I turned 40 and knew
our love was rare to find.
I cursed this world
that closed our door
to reunite in flesh.

That night we planned
so long ago
you came to me
made your presence known
proving death was not our end.

My almost lover
my forever soul brother
you have always known
our magic was real
that someday we would waltz forever.
